In present-day Hungarian usage, the velar demonstrative correlate is generally regarded as the regular variant in the matrix clause of subordinating complex sentences, grammaticalized from discourse-deictic use (Laczkó 2006; Dömötör 2012: 8). These correlates receive their content from the subordinate clause, unlike the palatal variant, which may preserve its independent demonstrative and anaphoric character.
b) A matrix clause is present, but formally it is not linked to the subordinate clause in the regular way. The regular variant would be: megvan a lehetőség arra, hogy bemehessenek megfürödni ‘there is an opportunity for them to go in and bathe’. In many cases, the construction is likely to involve a disrupted or restarted segment:
